In November of 2016, at the age of 18, Eric-John was elected to the Kenowa Hills School Board, becoming the body's first LGBTQ+ and youngest elected official. In April of 2019, Eric-John was also elected Student Body President at Grand Valley State University where he attends college full-time studying Public & Nonprofit Administration. At both institutions, he has enacted policy that requires LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination in hiring and service practices for any private vendor that does business with either governing board. Eric-John is passionate about providing teachers the supports needed to best serve all students, serving on two county-wide professional development committees focused on school mental health and personalized learning. He also serves as Board President for the Michigan Center for Civic Education.

In September of 2019, MI Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson appointed Eric-John to the Collegiate Student Voter Advisory Task Force. Click here to read the final report, detailing recommendations to increase voter turnout and participation by young people.
